Celebrities, the likes of me, know better than lag behind in today’s fast-paced digital age that we choose to take the fast road to success. What could be a more effective way of getting discovered than by emptying the contents of our camera’s DVR cards into YouTube, MySpace and Facebook among other websites? As I’d like to put it, there are many ways to stardom but it’s best to take the express way – all the way.
I find it sad that many people still wonder how celebrities get discovered; even sadder that they come up with the most passé theories. With the help of talent agents, of degrees in legit academies of performing arts or of lucky stars that made them present at the right place at the right time perhaps. Seriously, people! Fine, perhaps there’s some truth to the above-mentioned theories for a good number of A-list Hollywood stars – Ellen, Gwen, Fox and Fey – just got lucky.
There’s also a great many of us whose immense talent was discovered online.
The Biebs, or as I’d like to call him ‘not-another-Aaron-Carter’, surfaces as YouTube’s best matinee sensation to date. Justin Bieber was barely out of boyhood when his current manager came across his home vids. Where’s the boy wonder now? Why, going ooh-and-ah alongside RnB superstars Usher and JT.
Justin Bieber recently collaborated with another singing wonder of the online world Sean Kingston. Since some top agent discovered him on MySpace, Sean has been going “eanie meanie miney moe” whenever he’s around “Beautiful Girls”.
Wouldn’t it be nice if Sean Kingston collaborated with another MySpace sensation, Colbie Caillat? The acoustic-folk fair-haired singer wasn’t even under the wing of some large scale recording company when she made it to number one. Colbie has already bagged two Grammy’s for her collaborations with two other superb guitarists-singers Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift.
Throw in another guitar playing singer Marie Digby into the bunch. Now that would be one sold-out concert. Marie Digby’s fame was brought about by her acoustic rendition of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”. That single song turned out to be the best promotion for her, considering she’s already signed under Hollywood Records.
As for me, I’m no ‘not-another-Aaron Carter’ nor could I play guitar. I have my apartment’s CCTV security cameras to thank for my rise to fame. Now go on and guess who I am.
