It all sounds dreamy, and to some extent undeniably true, but not all women experience this light bulb moment. After several dresses, full mirrors and bridal shops in bay area, I have not yet found that one perfect gown. Was I just too caught up in the enchantment of finding the big white gown I’d be wearing on my big day as most blushing brides claim “you’ll just know”? Or is it because I am not most brides that I’ve tried on almost all the bridal dresses in bay area and still am left not in the know? For the record, I did not have this much of a hard time in finding my husband to be.
I find solace in the fact that I am not alone in this struggle of choosing the right wedding gown. After all, I am not the only one hell bent to look good on that one special day. Many would-be brides just like me have scoured wedding dress shops in east bay area only to be disappointed. In our frantic search we did not find our dream gowns but we found out that the sense of “just knowing” is an impossible feat.
Instead of waiting for your moment of enlightenment, better have a clear mental image of the dress you’d want to wear as you walk down the isle even before you go shopping. Having an image in your mind would come in handy when you come across a selection of bridal gowns in Danville CA that all seem to have neon signs that say “pick me, I am IT”. Yes, I am one to tell. Reality check, that one of a kind piece of clothing will not find you – it’s the other way around, contrary to the belief popularized by chick lit and chick flicks alike.
As a bride you can’t just end your quest for the wedding dress but what you can do is end your fantasies. I, for one, have come to terms with reality – the perfect gown may not even exist at all. Whenever I enter a bridal shop I no longer go looking for “pick me” neon signs glued on to any of the dresses. I stopped staring at the mirror for too long when trying on a particular gown, instead I move about the place to check if the gown feels comfortable. I quit trying to squeeze myself into beautiful dresses that are clearly not made for my body type as they may look breathtaking on display but on me they may require a lot of alterations in Danville CA.
