Pulling Off the Expectant Bride Look

They say every single bride looks her absolute best on her wedding day. Brides seem to be all aglow as if some spotlight was shone right above their perfect heads. Given this, there must be a sliver of hope for an expecting bride like me. Maybe I could pull off any wedding dress in NYC despite having this huge planet where my toned tummy used to be.

Call me Bride of Chubby. On my wedding day I’ll be way far along in my pregnancy that at any given second I could just pop. No amount of “you’re positively glowing” or “your breasts are full and fab” compliments could convince me that I’d make a beautiful bride.

Who can blame me for being paranoid that I wouldn’t fit into the typical bridal gowns in New York and that I may have to search far and wide for bridal gowns in the USA? Bothered by my condition, my fiancé hired this amazing personal (wedding) shopper who, in my opinion, is God’s gift to pregnant brides. Also an expectant bride once, she gave feel-and-look-good tips for my upcoming wedding.

The Dreaded Dress

My fairy godmother – God’s gift to pregnant brides – admitted that it was a challenge to find a dress that would flatter brides given “the condition”. Not knowing what your exact measurements would be by the time of your wedding – as your belly seems to grow by the minute – the best gown style would be the empire cut. It cuts just below the bust line and is perfect for concealing your protruding tummy. Not that you’re feeling any bit of shame in trying to hide your baby bump, you just want to get the most flattering gown possible.

A good number of known designers are styling maternity bridal dresses in NYC cut to suit most pregnant bodies. These bridal gowns in NY are designed to compliment the rather unusual silhouette – with stretchy panels and back strings that create the illusion of a waist.

Staying Comfortable

By no means try to squeeze your figure into a too-tight dress lest you want to burst, literally, in the middle of your wedding ceremony. Choose light, breathable fabrics and steer clear from lace and other intricate material that could cause discomfort. Loose the train and other bulky trimmings for obvious reasons.

In Her Shoes

You know what a struggle it is to move about carrying an extra ten pounds inside you. You can just imagine how it would be on your wedding day when you have to be on your feet almost all day. Get two pairs of shoes that look and feel good on your (swelling) feet. Disregard “beauty has its sacrifices” no matter how tempting it is to slip your feet into sexy stilettos that only guarantee back pains and cramps later on. Shop just before your wedding as you know how, like your belly, your feet also seem to increase in size before your very eyes.
