FASHION is an art reflecting life. Every now and then we hear the names of Valentino, Pierre Cardin, Chanel, Versace etc. There fashion houses have a great impact upon our hair styles, how we dress up, the way we put on make-up and even behave in this or that situation. Designers determine our choice of clothing every season.
There are several very important events in the fashion calendar which are called fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are arranged each season for fashion designers to demonstrate their latest collections in runway shows and for fashion to see the latest fashions. The most crucial thing is that they display the industry what is in and what is out for the season. The most impressive fashion weeks are organized in the fashion capitals, including Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (also called haute couture) are shown.
Haute Couture is a French phrase for expensive and fashionable clothes. Couture stands for dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute means sophisticated. Haute couture clothes are made for a particular client from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewn by hand commonly deploying time-consuming techniques. This is why, couture clothes are luxurious and exclusive.
Dependent on the haute couturier and the garment, the price of a couture item varies from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and often beyond that sum. The price includes payments for the service, work, originality of a unique design and splendid materials of the finest quality.
In addition, every customer will receive a garment to fit them perfectly. It takes approximately 100-150 hours to make a handmade suit and up to 1000 hours for an evening dress embellished with thousands of beads sewed by hand. A couture house like Chanel, for instance, will have around 150 regular customers buying luxury clothes, and a couture house like Dior will make approximately 20 couture wedding gowns every year.
Apart from clothes, well-renowned haute couture houses make exclusive luxurious accessories, such as hats, buttons, belts, gems, footwear, handbags. Those who can afford luxury items, pay for exclusivity and the privacy offered by the system.
