I was pretty excited about the whole painting in Washington DC plan. It seemed easy – at least for me as I was only to pick the paint colors. Not that I have that much know-how in the said department, I just volunteered to choose the color schemes as my husband’s taste bordered plain, dull and well, boring. With the help of this highly-recommendable painting company that also happens to do Washington DC roofing and cooling in Washington DC, our house would sure light up in colors in no time, so to speak.
Our street was the closest thing to the fictional Wisteria Lane of Desperate Housewives so you can just picture how all the houses looked alike. Having this in mind, I had to consider how my neighbors would react to the new colors I wanted on my house’s exterior. I consulted with the other homeowners and they seemed to have no problems as long as I stay away from shocking yellow, bubble gum pink and the worst possible, fluorescent neon – in any shade or color.
There were other things I had to consider before we could hoard gallons of paint and start repainting. One factor was the landscape around the house. Our front lawn had already been rehabilitated – the typhoon cost us a full landscape remodeling and a couple hundred dollars – and the colors used on our garden had to complement the colors of the house. A good interior designer friend of mine suggested that you can get inspiration from nature as to what colors to use on the exterior of your house. Apart from the landscape surrounding the outside of the house, you can also take inspiration from the inside – in the living room, bedrooms and even the baths. The main point of borrowing from nature and from the existing color schemes in your homes’ interior is to harmonize.
My, and I thought choosing paint colors was as easy as picking out which ones matched. Turns out it was nothing like deciding which pieces of clothing went well together or which hair color matched my skin tone. There were as much as six colors to choose for the different parts of the house – for the siding, the accents for doors, windows panes, moldings and decks. Now, talk about overwhelming.
