Today was my first day as Associate Site Manager at Dani California Steel Welders. Frankly, I had qualms leaving my previous position as SOO – Son of the Owner – to take on a much more demanding, albeit certified role. Let’s just say there are people born to succeed and there are those born to just watch them doers climb the ladder to success. It’s easy to tell I fall under the latter category judging by my rather lowly status at a company bearing our own family name. Father knew better than placing his prodigal son high up the ranks in an established company providing custom welding services in California.
The idea of working, of actually doing something, scared the bejesus out of me. My every-bachelor’s-dream lifestyle was now on the line. A good week ago I received an acceptance letter with an awfully familiar seal on it. My brothers warned that this day would come though I did not give it much regard. I should’ve listened to Adam and Lucas who were also compulsorily affiliated with DCSW. Being topnotch engineers was our birthright, but like I said, I just wasn’t born the go-getter type.
Dropping out halfway through the first semester of college was not the smartest choice, though it seemed very much so at that time. I flew to the Bahamas even before “liquid coating California and powder coating in California” module started; surfing lessons was more my thing but thanks anyway. But since I decided to come back home and take on my responsibility as part of the Dani clan, I had to take into heart Henry Ford’s words of wisdom.
