Not being a refurnishing expert, I sought the help of a reputable contractor who does both interior and exterior home constructions. For my humble Houston home, I initially wanted a kitchen remodeling but ended up having that and two more others – concrete work in Houston TX and asphalt work in Houston TX. You can tell I was more than satisfied with the service provided by my contractor that I was easily convinced to have more than just the planned project done. Given this, I took the liberty of asking him for helpful tips in remodeling, just so I can pass as an expert when my friends and family come over and ask me about my brand new kitchen.

Geographically Speaking

The kitchen is best placed next to the dining area. This proves to be practical when you have guests over for get-togethers over good home-cooked meals. Personally I like inviting close friends to my place and give them samplings of my latest gastronomical discoveries. There’s nothing better than playing host of the most to my foodie guests by being able to interact with them even as I cook. And this could only possible if you have your kitchen strategically positioned. If you’re concerned that your kitchen might be mistaken for some other room, keep in mind the distinguishing factor – a higher ceiling. Well, that and the most obvious – the appliances!

Space Savers

If you’re a single gal like me whose house is space-challenged, having ample storage space in the kitchen would most likely be a problem. I had built-in cabinets in my kitchen before but was advised to trade them with an open pantry. So I had the cabinets removed to make room for steel racks that would hold most items in my kitchen. The racks with the displayed goods gave my kitchen a modern restaurant feel and was not just convenient but also visually appealing. To make even more room, I also rid the small space off plainly decorative pieces like my mom’s passed-down collection of fine China.

The choice and positioning of your counter tops in Houston can also affect kitchen space. Having different sized marble countertops in Houston does not only give the illusion of a bigger space but also proves to be useful if more than one person at a time cooks in the kitchen. Granite countertops in Houston TX with different heights would allow more space for moving and would make your kitchen look more interesting at a glance.

Hide and Seek

Having panels to hide appliances like that double-door fridge or that stainless steel stove is a good way to save space. Install these bulky machines in panels that blend with the other cabinets that you have. How can you achieve a cohesive look? Opt for neutral stainless steel.
