What good is a new home if you cannot show it off to your friends? By the time my husband was done signing home ownership papers, I already had all the necessary details ticked off my housewarming checklist – from invites to catering. The only thing I had to deal with was the handsome hardwood floor.
Wood floors are as charming as they are sensitive, making them both a blessing and a curse in a home. But being the domestic goddess that I am, I believe my hardwood floor Chicago to be but a beautiful feature of my home. Why, there are a number of ways in which you could keep your floors free of damage. Yes, even from high heels that can cause permanent spikes, which by the way is my biggest housewarming problem by far.

To add to the misfortune, all my female guests will be donning their killer pairs to my party. The remedy: have laminate flooring Chicago installed. Kidding aside, guests in stilettos became my best excuse to hoard a few more area rugs and carpets. Rugs, mats and carpets are good preventive pieces as they are beautiful room accents.
What’s worse than having to leave one’s heels before entering a home freshly subject to hardwood floor installation Chicago? Say, not being allowed to eat or drink inside the house to avoid potentially damaging spills. The “no food and drinks” allowed rule is any party’s biggest pooper. I was vying for ‘gracious host’ not total disgrace that I planned to strategically place rugs by the buffet. Then maybe I could lure the guests over to the spacious balcony for drinks after as alcohol spills cause bad chemical reactions to hardwood floors.
The worst thing that can happen on the night of my party is a little rainstorm. Apart from the high no-show rate, guests who would make it to the housewarming would bring in water from outside. Water can damage wood floors, especially surfaces that haven’t had proper hardwood floor sanding Chicago or hardwood finishing. Although I’m pretty confident that our floors were well serviced before we officially moved in, I still couldn’t risk damaging my wooden floors. Our walk-in closet by the door would be savior in the event of a rainstorm. I wouldn’t mind having wet carpets there, anyway.
