I wasn’t too thrilled about the idea of moving to Washington as the dirt cheap property my parents acquired was far from ideal. I didn’t find our new house impressive, too far from the New York apartment I grew up in. Dad, however, encouraged me and my siblings to unleash our creative side via interior and exterior painting in Wa.

Armed with buckets of paint and a roller brush, I conditioned my mind that painting in Washington is going to be fun though I wasn’t sure how to make this happen yet. Since dad gave us the freedom to choose whichever colors that pleased us for the fence and walls, I went for earthy shades like rust and olive green. As we busied ourselves with the painting task, dad focused on exterior house staining, which, from a distance seemed more fun so I went up to him to check out the difference of staining from painting.

Showing interest in what he’s doing sort of surprised my dad, as he knows I’m the least member of the family who would want to get her hands and designer shirt stained. While I stood there watching him, dad volunteered some interesting information about Wa and how painting has become a regular activity among its homeowners. According to dad, Washington is a US state that is often visited by the rain that is why homes and commercial properties here undergo staining and painting on a regular basis. He added that in Wa, pressure washing is also greatly in demand, thus, many homes and commercial properties fork out $20,000 to a hundred bucks to acquire the service.

Pressure washing is costly since it entails high-end equipment to get the job done. You’ll need high-pressure water hoses, a turbo nozzle to clean concrete, a powerful X Jet to help you clean hard to reach areas even without a ladder, and a truck to carry all these pieces of equipment.

After educating me on pressure washing, dad diverts the conversation to exterior painting, the chore assigned to me, and how it protects your house from weather damage. Dad said a successful painting job will help one’s home withstand extreme weather conditions and climate change. If done correctly, you can save a thousand bucks for next year’s maintenance service. Painting is a do-it-yourself task which should be enjoyed, as it’s a form of bonding activity among families. Dad informed that this might be the first and last time I’ll be holding a paint bucket and brush since he’ll be investing in house maintenance starting next year. I don’t know why I felt sad upon hearing this. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m about halfway through painting the picket fence. Once it’s done, I can boast it’s my masterpiece, my work of art!

Since I won’t be holding a paint brush anymore after today, I asked dad if I can paint the pillars of the porch, kitchen table, or the swing under the Oak in the backyard, maybe dad’s car, or…
