Another case would be a house that caught on fire and the owners had to hire a contractor to do interior renovations in St. Louis County. A simple job of living room and kitchen remodeling in St. Louis County turned into a whole house renovation. The owners were duped into allowing them to make the unnecessary repairs and the house had to be almost knocked down as a result. The owners then decided to sue for damages done and had to hire an attorney. Of course this meant more bills to be paid for the court fees and lawyer fees. Also, the contractor dodged out of paying for the materials bought so the owner as stated by law would be liable for all the purchases made worth around $20,000 which was also unnecessary in the first place as well.
You really have to be careful when getting a contractor. What was expected as the normal price to pay can easily become double than you have previously imagined. It also isn’t all about the money as well, the time required to make the repairs can also easily double if you choose the wrong contractor. When choosing a contractor, always consider his personality. He will be in your home everyday. If the relationship turns sour, then expect the repairs to turn sour as well. Always ask for a contract. Put everything into writing so that you will be backed up in case things indeed turn sour. Also, be present when they are making repairs so you know that they are doing their job, but do not try to micromanage them. You may be the client, but they probably know more about repairs than you otherwise you wouldn’t have hired them in the first place. Lastly, ask about insurance. IF anything goes wrong, at least you know that you will be covered. Follow these tips and maybe the renovation you are trying to make will build you up and not tear you down.
