Renovation in Calgary is also becoming common for high rise structures like condos and apartments. In the downtown area, you will notice that some office buildings are undergoing renovations as well. This is a good thing as it gives more jobs to local residents and encourages business to expand. As of 2008, Calgary had 264 completed high-rise buildings, with 42 more under construction, another 13 approved for construction and 63 more proposed. It is forecasted that the construction will go on well into the next decade with no hint of slowing down.
Even in the other areas of Alberta, the trend of home building is still going strong. Construction in Okotoks, the town directly south of Calgary, is experiencing a surge in jobs as more people want to settle down in a not quite so city but still close enough situation. This is trend is getting more popular as well for working immigrants who want to live in cheap rental homes and do not mind the daily commute to Calgary. Contractors in Okotoks are very busy laying out their plans and executing their strategies to better exploit the opportunity that they are having at them moment.
Of course, there will have to be a limit to how much people can construct before the place becomes saturated with residential properties. It is a crucial time now for Alberta especially the city of Calgary as this time will determine the following years on how they are going to expand and capitalize on the good fortune that they are having. The state representatives and city government will have to work closely together in order to keep the direction of growth moving forward and up. If they are successful in this endeavor, Toronto and Vancouver may have to keep up if it continues at this rate!
