Tips To Get Rid of Anxiety Attacks

An imagined fear or phobia or an actual, physical condition may cause or trigger panic attacks. Symptoms of a panic attack may also be exhibited physically or mentally, just like its causes. Physical symptoms that may be experienced during a panic attack are shortness of breath, sweating, palpitations, visible shaking, chills, paleness, hot flushes, blushing, dizziness, nausea, chest pains and abdominal discomfort. Some of the psychological symptoms are obsessive thoughts, feeling unreal or dreamy, feeling detached from oneself, fear of death and having the fear of losing control or going crazy.

There are many methods available that you can use to eliminate panic attacks but what we're going to tackle are coping strategies-ways on how you should deal with a panic attack when it hits you. Unlike anxiety attacks, panic attacks come with no warning and do not necessarily result from excessive worrying over something. They can come randomly and can last only for so long but during those times, you would want to feel better able to deal with the panic. Coping strategies that bring swift relief fall under two groups: diversion and relaxation. Diversion techniques involve putting your attention from your worrying thoughts to the places and things that dwell outside of you or around you. Counting backwards from 100 to 1 is one diversion technique. You may also count stripes, dots, flowerbeds, cars or practically any countable object you see around you. Other good diversion techniques are splashing one's face with cold water or singing a song aloud.

A rush of adrenaline is often associated with a panic attack when it strikes. One way to relax is to move around or take a walk-all these will allow you to use up those adrenaline and consequently help you relax. You can also try tensing all of your muscles first and then relaxing rather than going straight to relaxing your muscles. You should also practice good breathing techniques so that when an attack comes, you'll be able to use them. Here's one example: Inhale normally, taking in just enough breath, not too deep. Then exhale for a longer count. You may keep track of your breaths by counting while you're doing this. While this may work for you, you may also want to learn other relaxation and breathing techniques that work just as good or better for you as well.
