Blame It on the Pizza

Who to blame for the growing number of women and men (read: manorexics) resorting to yo-yo and crash dieting? Fingers have been pointed to the ever influential media, where else. Contrary to other people’s beliefs, I hold Duarte Pizza Company and Monrovia Pizza Company, among others, responsible for this cutting back madness. How can you not resist their filling calzone or deep dish, let alone a single slice of thick crust pan pizza? After having but a bite of the grease-smothered gastronomical delight, how can you not possibly feel a pang of guilt and seek refuge in some crash diet? You’d feel as though the layers of meat and mozzarella went straight to your blood stream and have no choice but save yourself from possible heart attack by not having any food intake for the next three days or so.
Mind you, it’s not just the pizza in Pasadena, CA, there are many other causes. CA pasta, Philly Cheese steak, New York cheesecake and lobster Maine to name but a few sinfully delectable temptations. These fattening treats are virtually available at an arm’s length; no, make that, at the tip of your fingers. Bet you often find yourself dialing for Chinese take-out or California pizza home delivery. There’s no denying that scrumptious fast-food beats home-cooked meals any given moment. At least if the meals are cooked by no less than your frustrated chef of a boyfriend – by frustrated I mean HE frustrates the bejesus out of you.
Not to be mistaken for an ungrateful foodie, I know it is quite irresponsible to be putting the blame on restaurants. After all, everyone loves good meat or pizza or pasta on them. Sadly not everyone – myself included in the said category – is blessed with self-control. So when our sad ratio of many an uncontrollable eater experiences weight gain then resorts to fad diets, we wallow in self-denial and blame food instead of ourselves. Seriously, it’s not as though that slice of meat-lovers pizza would go scurrying off when they ‘see’ me, I should be the one steering clear. Ah, now that’s a good note to self.
