Take inspiration from these five shows and with a click of the remote, you might just take the leap from bona fide foodie to self-confessed chef at-home. Simply watching the top chef hosts whip up gastronomical delights might send you buying gourmet food products wholesale.
• Most people aren’t as fortunate as Ina Garten to have a house in the Hamptons, a loving hubby and the heart of an endearing host about their person. She would play host of the most for friends and family in every single episode of Barefoot Contessa. A typical episode would feature Garten’s “treat yourself” exploits – buying new gourmet food products from specialty shops in East Hampton, doing elegant table settings complete with hand-picked flowers from her own yard and preparing full-course meals for charming guests.
• Nigella Lawson is every housewife’s icon and as it follows, every husband’s dream partner. With her thought-provoking expressions and seemingly sensual gestures as she savors her home-cooked meals, no other host can make cooking look orgasmic. There’s no single episode of Nigella Feasts or Nigella Bites wherein her curls were out of place or her was lipstick smudged. Yes, she’s living proof that women can cook well and look good whilst at it.
• Everyday Italian hosted by Giada De Laurentiis would make anyone want a shot at Italian cooking – cold pressed olive oil and all. Like Nigella, Giada has nary a stray strand of hair hanging around her face as she moves about the kitchen making traditional Italian cuisine. With all the caloric content of the herb-crusted lamb, cheese stuffed shell pasta and chocolate-ricotta pie she effortlessly whips up and serves to family and friends, it’s such a wonder that she stays slim and lithe.
• Preparing a full meal used to be a whole day affair before Rachel Ray. In half an hour she’s able to finish cooking appetizers, entrees and desserts – all the while entertaining her live audience with her sharp wit and endearing laughter. Next time you drizzle award winning olive oils – “EVOO” in Rachel’s words – on your side of salad or take a bite of your shepherd’s pie, you might find yourself saying “yummo” or “delish” out loud.
• Jamie Oliver finds time to marinate kalamata olives, previously hand-harvested from his yard, whilst revolutionizing eating in London public schools and traveling across America to sample comfort food. Jamie at Home is a must-watch for home-bodies who like experimenting with different recipes and fresh ingredients in the kitchen.
