These days, you hear and read of women taking on jobs as oil riggers and construction workers; jobs that used to be identified with men only. The first time I heard about this, I was shocked. It was, indeed, surprising for everyone in the beginning but then if you research about these women, you’ll find out that they’ve managed to get into the jobs they are in now not because they are physically strong as men, but because their minds are as sharp as men’s. Mind you, by nature men have better common sense than women thus very good at analyzing things and situations.

Aside from domestic chores and trivial home maintenance like fixing frames on the wall with regular hooks, women with sharp minds and who use common sense when dealing with problems, can definitely perform heavier tasks, too, which decades ago, were believed to be exclusively for men. For as long as the necessary work equipment and tools are at hand, there’s no reason why a woman wouldn’t be able to pull off a heavy task.

Take for instance a 30-something female neighbor who has a gym situated five blocks away from my place. There was not a time that she hired help for her malfunctioning gym equipment. There was even an instance when she replaced the load binders of a broken strength circuit all by herself. It’s really amazing how she got the thing to work again.

As I watched my neighbor fix the strength circuit not so long ago, I couldn’t help but be in awe. While I don’t know of many girls who understand the importance and use of wire rope clips, chain assemblies and wire rope thimbles, which my neighbor talked much about on that day she fixed her strength circuit, I realized that women pose a threat to many a man’s profession.

See, a woman has the eye for design and aesthetics while only a few men are blessed with this trait. If she mixes her penchant for design with her analytical strength and knowledge on men’s tools and equipment, she will always be able to produce optimum results. No wonder more and more women are becoming independent nowadays.
That said, would hiring a female construction worker, arborist or plumber gain a homeowner more benefits than if he hires the usual male worker?

I thought so, too.
