Custom Greeting Cards With A Human Touch

While doing some window shopping in a mall one Saturday afternoon in December, a lady came up to me and struck a conversation. She initiated this conversation by giving me a custom greeting card. I was surprised to receive this custom greeting card so I looked at it. That was how it all started.

This custom greeting card was a photograph of a family - a family not different from mine. It had a Merry Christmas greeting on it so I went on to look at the message inside. The inside page was quite revealing. It asked its reader if they were ready to lose their family. My initial reaction was fear and surprise. Why would this lady give me a greeting card that is quite disquieting?

My interest was now caught so I asked her what that custom card meant. She then revealed to me that something as precious as my family could suddenly be all gone if I do not prepare myself. Prepare myself for what? She continued by saying that in these times, no one knows what may happen. She then talked about earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes. It turned out that she was an insurance agent.

That printing greeting card company got through me with their custom greeting card. When I saw that family and the possibility of losing them, I thought I’d give that lady my attention. Needless to say, this marketing strategy worked.

If you really want to get somebody’s attention, you must appeal to their emotions. You must be able draw out from people their emotions. Printing greeting cards like that one made me realize something important. It touched what I hold dear, my family.

After that greeting card, it would be up to your agent to capture that emotion. Listen to these opening lines:

1) Do you value your family? If you can spare me five minutes, I will tell you all about how you can value them more.
2) What a lovely family! I am sure your family is just like that in the photograph. If you value you them so much, I can share with you some proposal to make them more secure.

Now, tell me how you would respond to these.

Marketing should be personal. It is the most welcome approach. It is unobtrusive unlike your elevator pitch. Remember, never for one moment think of a person as a mere client or a potential customer. Your customer is a person.

A lot of companies can learn from this tenet. If you really want to get your product or service accepted, you must learn to accept the fact that your customers are human. And as human beings they have emotions and feelings. The key here is to make your approach in printing greeting cards more human. A custom print card is an example of this strategy. The greeting cards give some human touch.

Always remember that to be successful in marketing, you must accept that your clients are persons first and foremost. They’re being buyers are only secondary.
