They say pretty girls can get away with practically anything. People can’t help but mistake me for an international model whose face has graced many a magazine cover or a Hollywood celebrity with too many a blockbuster movie. I was then convinced I could take on everything what with good looks to boot. And I’m not just talking about beauty-related careers, mind you. I could be a doctor ala Izzy Stevens; a best-selling author the likes of J.K. Rowling and Danielle Steel; a young business tycoon – Ivanka Trump of Asia; an MTV VJ like Sarah Meier and even a witty lawyer ala Ally McBeal.
I had so much potential but so little opportunity, coming from a third world country that is. Believe me I’ve tried my hand in modeling contests, beauty pageants, VJ hunts and all the other reality shows that virtually promise instant rise-to-fame. Where am I now, you ask? Why, here I am halfway across the world employed in a world-renowned company specializing in janitorial services in Seattle, WA. A total turnaround as they say, from dreams of becoming a Seattle Grace doc to being an actual crew member of some cleaning service in Seattle, WA.
People can say whatever they please, trust me I’ll be the least bothered. After all what do they know? Doing window cleaning in Seattle, WA can take me places given our company’s upscale clientele. We had a fellow expert in window cleaning in Seattle before who’s now a flight attendant for no less than Emirates. She was fortunate enough to be assigned to do window and carpet cleaning services in the Seattle vacation house of an Arab ex-pat and, as cliché as it may seem, the rest was history. My former boss also experienced such good fortune that after servicing the casting studio of “Make Me A Supermodel” in Seattle was discovered by an agent and is now walking the runways of the world.
“Patience, my dear” I always say to myself. My own shining moment is just around the bend. Who knows what the near future brings, right? For all I know tomorrow would be the day. With fingers crossed, I’ll be scrubbing grime off the blinds of some big Hollywood agent, wiping the window panes of Eddie Vedder’s home, applying cleaning solution on Annette Funicello’s carpeted floors or even doing full service on Bill Gates’ entire house.
The opportunities are endless and my time is far from being up. After all, blessings come to those who wait.
