But as a business owner and marketer, this is precisely what you need to do. Speaking in public is everything to do about communication. More than creating your marketing collaterals, including your sticker printing and label printing, you need to reach out and communicate with your target clients verbally. Because how will you be able to convince them of your value if you’re afraid to speak and present yourself to them?
Speaking in public means having to make a presentation in front of a large number of people during a corporate meeting. It can also mean talking one-on-one with a prospective client. Whether you do the former or the latter, the fact remains that you are speaking in public. And that’s what makes you afraid every time.
But your fear is taking its toll not only on yourself but most especially to the growth of your business. As they say, the only thing you have to fear is fear itself. Unless you control your fear of speaking in public, you can never effectively market to your target clients and eventually be able to make a success of your business.
Make fear work for you!
Instead of looking at fear as an obstruction to your success, look at it as something that can help you protect yourself and your business. Fear has a way of triggering what we call the ‘fight or flight response’. This then results to a rush of adrenaline that would provide you the impetus to accomplish what you feel as impossible before. You would then be equipped with enough adrenaline that would give you that extra effort you need to do whatever action is needed in the situation.
Scientists have said it before, whether your fear is from a real situation or an imaginary one, a person’s reaction is the same. You will always be able to do the impossible possible.
From this premise then, it shows that you can benefit from fear. Your fear pushes the adrenaline, which then becomes your energy to act. Your pulse quickens, your mind becomes more alert, and new thoughts and ideas come forth. You then get creative strategies that can help you communicate better and more effectively with your target clients.
Fear and nervousness can indeed give you the edge, especially when you are faced with tough challenges. It gives you the adrenaline and enthusiasm to push fear away so that you conquer whatever it is that keeps you from speaking to your target audience.
So rather than see it as a curse, look at your fear as a gift. Make fear your ally and provide that extra energy and enthusiasm you need to market effectively to your target clients.
