A good friend’s a big RC car fan who knew all the nitty-gritty about servo motors, from Parker servo drive to Fanuc servo motor repair. How I came to know a thing or two about repairing and replacing control transmitters without spending a dollar on Yaskawa servo motor repair, I learned from him. Basically I owed him my life as he spared me a good sum upon accidentally wrecking my brother’s prized RC plane.
At some point, a servo’s really meant to act up; it’ll go totally berserk on you. In the case of my brother’s, it seemed to have completely crashed at my mere touch. Even without control transmitter know-how, I figured something was wrong when I saw some disconnected wires at first glance. I just moved the unit a bit to get hold of the porcelain piggy bank we shared and the next I thing I know, the metal what-have-you was on the floor, its wires and bearings in places they shouldn’t be. Not wanting to pay for anything, I sought the assistance of my bona fide RC car fan of a friend and he sure did help me with every step of the repairing process.
The servo arm was still attached and the back cover was already removed when I brought the poor unit to my friend’s place. He put a small piece of tape on the back to hold the cover still as the gears were being replaced, lest the bits and pieces won’t come together properly.
In taking off the front cover, note the order of the gears so to easily put them back together. It’s best to take a picture of how a well arranged servo so you’re sure to come up with a similar looking one after the repair.
Take out the gears from the case and crack the bearings and pin off the main gear. Clean the inside with tissue then for the bearings, dab a bit of grease.
Last step is to put back the cleaned gears in opposite order in which they were disassembled.
