Obsession with Car Cleanliness

I’m used to people commenting about my obsessive compulsive disorder. Whenever a person confronts me about my condition, I just say it pays to be meticulous as an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I don’t see any harm in taking proper care of things and making sure everything is in order. Better safe than sorry – that’s no secret to all.

I’m particularly bent on cleaning my biggest investment by far, my 2009 Hummer H3 Black Chrome Edition, above anything else. My obsession started after being soaked in rain while on a four wheel drive tour out in a desert, miles and miles away from Maryland. It was rather hot out on that fateful day of our trip and before my friends and I knew it, rain was falling in torrents from the suddenly dark sky. We decided to stay put instead of hurrying home as it was nearly zero visibility in the area. It took us too long a time that thought we were waiting for the water to run dry. It was only upon reaching home that we realized just how the heavy desert rain damaged our 4x4s. Mud all over our four wheel drives, at least two inches, which meant lots of pressure washing on the under side and on the paint of the body. And even worse, costly auto glass repairs in Maryland. You could only imagine why I became too particular on my car’s cleanliness.

Luckily a good friend owns a shop that specializes in pressure washing, auto detailing and glass windshield repair in MD. His shop also offered affordable auto glass wholesale which we seemed very much in need of judging by the awful condition of our rain-soaked, mud-covered vehicles. Two of the guys who were with us on the darned desert drive were not from Maryland so they were referred to pros doing car detailing and auto glass repair in DC. My auto geek friend perhaps sensed my disgust that he gave basic glass cleaning tips.

Cleaning became a hobby then shortly turned into an obsession. I got good windshield wipers and wiper fluid to keep dirt of any kind off the windshield. I also got a bug shield so nasty insect splatters and small stones when driving fast down the freeway would bother me no more. I also stashed bottles of vinegar and nail polish remover in the car so I could easily scrape off dirt and grime on my auto glass – anytime, anywhere.

There’s no getting around my obsession. For now, leave me be with my cleaning tools. Coughing up cash for full auto detailing and auto glass repair in VA is no small matter.
