Central Connecticut Region and Hartford
Central Connecticut begins at the unofficial capital, New Britain. This is where you will find the Copernican Observatory and Planetarium which houses one of the largest public telescopes in the country among other interesting items on exhibit. Hartford, Connecticut’s most accessible city is said to be “full of surprises”. In here you would find one of the most historical landmarks, the Mark Twain House, which dates back to the 1800s. The mansion of the legendary author designed in a Victorian Gothic style and adorned by Tiffany furniture is said to resemble a riverboat. Another long-standing landmark that can be seen in downtown Hartford is The Wadsworth Athenaeum which is the oldest art museum open to the public.
Northeast Connecticut
Known to many as the Quiet Corner, tourists can enjoy “quiet”, relaxing activities like going to local fairs and festivals, biking and walking along the picturesque country side. Even if you’re just passing through Connecticut on your way to Boston, you can still appreciate the charm of the rustic area. Make a stop in Coventry to see two top farmhouse attractions the Nathan Hale Homestead and the Caprilands Herb Farm.
Northwest Region and Litchfield Hills
If you think rivers, rolling hills and covered bridges are but stuff of postcards, wait until you see Litchfield Hills Region – the closest thing to countryside perfection. Aside from scenic views of the country, you ‘d also see Connecticut’s most popular attractions in this region – Lake Compounce Theme Park, American Clock and Watch Museum and Carousel Museum of New England. In the said must-visits you will see a white water raft ride, the best collection of American made clocks and timepieces and a collection of antique carousels respectively.
Mystic and Southeastern Shoreline
Visit the largest Maritime Museum in the U.S., Mystic Seaport in this coastal region. Walk through the recreated whaling village that holds makeshift ships, homes and shops that would give you a taste of the 19th century.
Fairfield County and Southwest Connecticut
Coastal Fairfield County is home of the best shopping centers and museums, among other must-sees in New England. Visit any of these lively tourist spots – Danbury Railway Museum, Barnum Museum, Maritime Aquarium and Beardsly Zoo. This region also serves as hometown for a number of famous entertainers and celebrities in New York.
